Explore American Sign Language at Pear Tree Community School!
Our American Sign Language (ASL) program offers K-5 students the opportunity to learn ASL fundamentals, including fingerspelling and conversational phrases. The class also promotes accessibility awareness and inclusivity, fostering allyship among students. Through songs, poems, books, crafts, and play, children gain language skills in a fun, engaging environment.
Classes meet weekly and are open to all Kindergarten through 5th-grade students (Hummingbirds, Falcons and Dolphins; pre-schoolers may join with their caretakers). Thanks to generous donations from Pear Tree families, this program is open to every child. Sign your child up today! We are seeking parents as well-- no ASL experience is required.
Ms. Kei-Che Randle
The class is led by the extraordinary Ms. Kei-Che Randle, a Black Deaf woman and Teacher of the Deaf with a wealth of experience and accomplishments. As the founder of STEPS (Songs to Enhance People Signing), Ms. Kei-Che has dedicated her life to bridging the gap between Deaf and hearing communities. Her teaching blends ASL instruction with music, storytelling, and cultural education, ensuring an engaging and deeply meaningful experience for all.
Ms. Kei-Che’s passion for inclusion and education shines through in her work. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, she brings a rich background in public health and Deaf education. In addition to her teaching, she is an active advocate for accessibility and a volunteer with Bay Area Black Deaf Advocates.
Help us continue offering this enriching experience to any student regardless of ability to pay by donating to the program. 100% of your contribution will go towards student scholarships and ensures that every child, regardless of financial background, can access the beauty of ASL and its culture. Join us in making a difference—support today and inspire tomorrow!
