Upper Playground and Fountain Enhancement
Immediate Goal: Full funding needed for 2025
Transform our upper grounds into a vibrant community hub where children develop physical skills, build friendships, and connect with nature. This project will create:
Painted play surface with basketball half court, four-square, hopscotch, and tetherball - Encouraging active play that builds coordination, teamwork, and healthy habits while accommodating different ages and interests.
Benches and picnic table for community seating - Creating gathering spaces that strengthen our school community and provide outdoor learning opportunities.
Restored rock fountain with food cascade garden - Combining water conservation education with hands-on learning about native plants and sustainable landscaping. Students will help maintain this living classroom while learning about local ecosystems.
This enhancement directly supports our commitment to outdoor education and community building, providing safe, engaging spaces where children can develop both physically and socially.
Eco Food Forest & Outdoor Classroom
Seeking grant writers and major donors for this transformative project
Our most ambitious vision: a living laboratory that teaches environmental stewardship, food security, and community responsibility while providing fresh, healthy food for our students and local families in need.
Terraced hillside with fruit trees, herbs, and planter boxes - Students will plant, tend, and harvest organic produce, learning agricultural science, nutrition, and the value of hard work. Surplus harvest will be donated to local food banks, teaching children about community service and food justice.
Outdoor classroom pavilion with solar power and propane kitchen - This weather-protected learning space will host science classes, cooking lessons using our harvest, and community workshops. Solar panels provide real-world lessons about renewable energy while reducing our carbon footprint.
Water catchment and irrigation systems - Students learn water conservation through hands-on management of sustainable irrigation, understanding both environmental science and resource stewardship.
Composting system and pollinator plants - Teaching the complete cycle of sustainable agriculture while supporting local bee populations and reducing waste. Students gain deep understanding of ecosystems and environmental interconnection.
Eight-foot security fence along Chabot Road - Ensuring student safety while maintaining our open, welcoming campus environment.
This phased, grant- and donor-funded vision positions our school as a model for environmental education, addressing multiple educational standards in science, environmental studies, health, and social responsibility. The project will serve as a replicable model for other schools while directly benefiting our local community through food donations and educational outreach.
We're actively seeking parent volunteers with grant-writing experience to help secure funding for this transformative project. Your expertise could help bring this vision to life for current and future students.
Both projects reflect our commitment to experiential learning, environmental responsibility, and community engagement - preparing our students to be thoughtful, capable citizens of tomorrow.
